Dallas Shaw is a talented fashion illustrator and writes a popular blog. She visited Bluebeard’s Castle in St. Thomas, and wrote this review about her vacation:
A couple weeks ago I was invited by SPM Resorts to spend 6 days & 7 nights at Bluebeard’s Castle resort …in St. Thomas (work is hard). Located in Charlotte Amalie, the resort was the perfect home base for a week of beautiful beaches, downtown shopping, and fine dining. The best part about the resort is that each room has kitchenettes, microwave, mini fridge which is a necessity for any weeklong stay. Oh, and bonus? Each room has it’s own private balcony overlooking the most beautiful view of the island. I spent each morning and evening working there and it’s what I miss the most.
Each morning our day began with a visit to one of St. Thomas’s breathtaking beaches. While each beach provided beautiful views, white powdered sand, and clear waters for swimming; each beach also had their own unique qualities. At Magens Bay we enjoyed a full breakfast at the beach and cool drinks at the beach bar. At Coki Beach we snorkeled and rented paddle boards to explore the bay beyond the sand. At Lindquist beach we decided to dodge ship crowds and hang with the locals for a secluded and memorable 4th of July celebration.
As if the beaches were not reason enough to visit St. Thomas, there is a variety of shopping opportunities on the island. For those looking for a great deal there are several options. First there is the market area in downtown Charlotte Amalie, which is full of souvenirs, “knockoff” handbags and sunglasses, as well as local inspired fashions. For those looking to spend a little more money, but still get a great deal there are the jewelry shops located downtown, as well as in the Havensight Mall area. These jewelry dealers offer incredibly discounted prices on men’s and women’s jewelry and watches, with the added bonus being of duty and tax free. For great prices on designer fashions we visited the Shoppe’s at Yacht Haven Grande, including Louis Vuitton and Gucci.
When we weren’t at the beach or shopping we were most likely eating at one of our now-favorite restaurants. Fortunately for us, two of our favorite places to dine, Room with a View and the Banana tree grill (I recommend the Key Lime Pie) were located IN our resort! Outside of the resort we enjoyed craft pizza at Pie Whole, located in Frenchtown, and amazing Mexican at Greengos downtown. For happy hour we frequented The Greenhouse, located on the waterfront downtown, and possibly the best burger I have ever had at Tap and Still in Red Hook.
Heading to St. Thomas anytime soon? Call up SPM Resorts- you’re going to want to check out Bluebeard’s Castle. Oh, and bring this list with you. You won’t want to miss that burger.
