Things to Do in the Greater Fort Lauderdale area

The Greater Fort Lauderdale area includes not only eight beaches but a wide variety of attractions including parks, water sports, gambling, art, tours, events & festivals and much more. There are a variety of ways to get around without getting in your car. Walking, riding bikes, and using a segway can be utilized for attractions that are close to where you are staying. But Broward County also offers a Bus Transit System, Hollywood has a Trolley, and there is the Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi and Fort Lauderdale offers the Water Shuttle. Beaches

There are eight beaches in the Greater Fort Lauderdale area with each offering its own unique attractions. SPM Resorts manages Hollywood Beach Tower in Hollywood. Museums

Visit the Fort Lauderdale Antique Car Museum to see a collection of 22 Packard autos from the 1900s to 1940s. The museum also includes a dedication to Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Who doesn’t love trains? Take some time to visit the South Florida Railway Museum in Deerfield Beach. Not only will you get to enjoy trains but also the historic Seaboard Air Line Railway Station where the museum is housed.

Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Museum is on the National Register of Historic places and a Florida Heritage site. Exhibits include art work, uniforms, a reconstructed barrack’s room, equipment and much more related to naval aviation.

The Stranahan House, built in 1904, is the oldest surviving structure in Broward County. Journey back in time and see the history associated with this house as you take a tour.

Parks

Visit ArtsPark at Young Circle in downtown Hollywood. This 10-acre complex includes an ampitheater, a water feature, playground, and visual arts pavilion. Check their website for special events and activities going on during the summer.

The Anne Kolb Nature Center is a 1,501 acre complex that includes a variety of plants and animals with boat trails and walking trails to help you enjoy the sights of this area. The exhibit hall offers an aquarium, video presentations and art work by local artists.

Be sure to take the kids to Topeekeegee Yugnee Park while you are visiting Hollywood. This unique over 138 acre park offers a fantastic water park plus bike rentals, biking/jogging path, Memorial Fitness Zone, picnic areas, tennis, basketball, volleyball, playground, fishing and geocaching.

Pompano Community Park is just one of the parks in Pompano Beach and offers visitors 43 acres of picnic and grilling areas, playgrounds, sporting fields, basketball and volleyball courts, a tennis center, an aquatic center, biking, walking and jogging trails and more.
